From the moment we started working with Birgün, we faced two main challenges that required solutions. One of these challenges was that our competitors in the sector had a strong position in organic search results, and the other was that we were not strong enough technically.

In order to make a strong and effective start, we decided to meticulously examine the infrastructure of our website. Our analysis started with the question “Does our website offer a solid enough foundation to step into Google Discover?”. We embarked on an in-depth study to get the answer to this question. The results clearly showed us that our content was crawlable and that our visuals did not fit into the world of Discover.
As a result of our findings, we needed to fix the code snippets that are not allowed in the HTML tags that occur in AMP.

After editing the relevant code snippets, the number of errors we received in AMP decreased. While solving the AMP problem, we knew that our images were also important and we realized that our images did not have the “max-image-preview” tag and we defined the “max-image-preview” tag for all images on our site.
When we checked the dimensions of all our images, most of our images did not fit the 1200px width. Before we finalized our work, Google stated that “Large images should be at least 1,200 pixels wide”. For this, we included all our prominent images in this optimization.

What have we won?
Over the last 3 months, embracing the last quarter, our success has been stunning; 27.5 million clicks and 393 million impressions. This was a stepping stone to the pinnacle of our success.
Based on the last 6 months, we have produced an impressive picture: 34.1 million clicks and 532 million impressions. The results obtained from our work are not only an expression of success, but also a success story that promises that our growth potential for Birgün Newspaper will increase even more in the future.
