Challenges:

In site migration processes, the biggest challenge is that the website may lose organic traffic due to the change in domain name, while errors may cause Google search engines to be misdirected and users to encounter 404 pages.

Preparing a comprehensive road map with the software team is necessary to minimize the risk and even correct existing errors during site migration.
Mikrox.com, one of the Mikrogrup products for which we undertake SEO project development processes, wanted to change its domain name to Bizmu.com, so we started planning the transition.

The aim of our project was to increase organic traffic to the website by migrating all URLs without losing traffic and by improving the site during the transition.

The Approach:

Within the scope of the Plan, the following steps were taken:

Before migration:

    • 📌 Robots.txt and sitemap.xml files have been checked and updated. All existing 301 URLs have been moved to the new domain.
    • 📌 Preliminary preparations were made for internal linking to be re-linked with the new domain name.
    • 📌 Preliminary preparations were made for user experience and page speeds on the new website. Existing SSL and 404 errors have been fixed.
    • 📌 Correct configuration of Heading Tag usage on the new website has been ensured.

During Site Migration:

    • 📌 Switched to the new domain name. New robots.txt and sitemap.xml files have been published.
    • 📌 Internal links, images and URLs were scanned. Checks were made for www – non-www versions and HTTP Protocols.
    • 📌 Appropriate Structured data structures such as Article, Logo, FAQ and Breadcrumbs were created.

Post-migration:

    • 📌 Canonical Tag errors were fixed and rebuilt. Page speeds and codes analyzed and corrected.
    • 📌 Pages with weak content were analyzed, and content update briefs were created.
    • 📌 A content strategy was created to compare them with their competitors.

Results:

To summarize, existing URLs have been moved to the new domain. This was checked by making internal links. Codes triggered on landing pages have been optimized. Canonical tags created in the new CMS infrastructure were optimized. Pages with weak content were analyzed, and content update briefs were submitted.

As a result of the project, we observed a 252% increase in organic traffic over 3 months and a 412% increase in organic visibility over 6 months!
